Shock as woman’s body is found dangling at a church entrance

03 July 2014, 16:10 Arap Yego

Bungoma - Residents of Kamukuywa in Bungoma County are in a shock after the lifeless body of a woman was found dangling at the verandah of a church in the area Thursday morning.

The body of the woman, whose identity was not established immediately, was found hanging at the entrance of Harvest Way Centre Church near Kamukuywa market, raising suspicion that she might have been murdered elsewhere and her body dumped at the spot.

School children are said to have stumbled upon the body on their way to school in the morning, prompting them to raise an alarm. Residents later found the woman’s handbag and phone abandoned in a nearby maize plantation.

Kimilili OCPD, Philip Wambugu confirmed the incident and said they have launched investigations to establish the cause of the death as well as the motive behind the woman’s brutal murder.

“We have launched investigations to unravel the cause of the woman’s death. Police officers took the woman’s body to Webuye District Hospital mortuary for preservation, where postmortem to ascertain the cause of her death is expected to be performed,” said the police boss.

Meanwhile in the same county, a middle-aged man who is suspected to have murdered his father over a land row was lynched by angry members of the public in Kaimugul Village in Mt Elgon sub-County.

The young man, who reportedly went missing after the lifeless body of his father was discovered on Tuesday morning, was stoned to death by an angry mob Wednesday  vening when he showed up at their  homestead.

Ezekiel Kiche, the Cheptais OCPD confirmed the incident and explained that the man was subjected to mob justice on suspicion that he was behind the murder of his late father, as he was said to have had a quarrel with him over land a day before his demise.

“He disappeared the morning when the body of his father was discovered. When the young man showed up at their home on Wednesday evening, angry residents who were mourning his father and baying for his blood descended on him with stones, killing him instantly,” said  the police boss.
