Nyeri County has launched a mwananchi shadow cabinet which is geared towards offering positive criticism to the County government.
A section of Nyeri residents formed a team of nine shadow executives who are mandated to offer checks and balances against Governor Nderitu Gachagua’s Government.
Speaking to the media during the launch in Nyeri town, the shadow governor for the county Kamau Gatweshi said the shadow cabinet will be voluntary watchdogs who will ensure that the needs of the residents are met.
Gatweshi said that his cabinet will keenly monitor the county government to ensure that youths and women affairs are mainstreamed effectively.
“We are not here to compete with Governor Gachagua but to offer positive criticism where needed. One of our mandates is to ensure that devolution is implemented to the letter so that the common mwananchi can benefit,” said the shadow Governor.
The mwananchi shadow cabinet will also monitor corruption in the county government and act as a mouth piece for the residents of Nyeri.
A loser in the women representative race in March 4 general election Cathy Irungu got the Trade docket.
Other members of the shadow cabinet include David Wanjohi (Agriculture), Samuel Mbaka (Sports), Earnest Wang’ombe (Water), Kariuki Mwivi (Finance), Pharis Mwangi (ICT), David Ngige (Information) and Ann Ngugi (Gender).
