Sex trafficker apprehended in Nakuru
16 July 2013, 13:34
A middle aged woman was on Monday afternoon arrested at Lanet estate in Nakuru for allegedly trafficking girls and boys to Mombasa for commercial sex purposes.
The woman who was only identified by the villagers as Wanjiku is said to have been transporting the youths to tycoons in Mombasa for ‘pleasure’.
While defending herself, the woman claimed that the 12 youths were only going to act as tour guides for her daughter’s fiancé and friend from South Africa.
“They were only going to be my daughter‘s friends’ tour guides because she is about to get married to her South African boyfriend,” she said.
The woman also claimed that she had not forced the youths to go to her house and that they went there willingly to seek help in locating job opportunities.
During the arrest of the woman, seven girls and four boys were also found hiding at the woman’s house awaiting their travel to Mombasa.
According to one of the girls who spoke to the media, they had been promised a pay of KES 2 000 per day for acting as tour guides for South African tycoons for the next five days.
The villagers said they trusted the woman with their children since she was a born again member of the ‘Akorino’ denomination.
Speaking to the press, an administration officer who sought anonymity said that they received information from the public and that’s when they started investigations.
The security officer said that the lady has been luring the youths with false promises of employment in Mombasa.
The woman together with the 12 youths were later taken to Bahati police station for further questioning.
