Nyeri - At least seven people have been confirmed dead and scores others injured following a road accident at Kiangai area along Karatina-Kerugoya Road.
According to Regional traffic Commander, Samuel Mbore, the Wednesday morning accident involved a probox and a salon car.
While confirming the incident, Mbore said the driver of the salon car who was heading to Karatina from Kerugoya died on the spot.
Five other occupants of the probox also died instantly in the grisly accident while another female passenger succumbed to injuries at Karatina District hospital while undergoing treatment.
Three people, among them a Form three student, are admitted at the hospital with serious injuries.
The probox had about ten passengers on board when the accident occurred.
According to an eyewitness, Ephantus Mwangi who was walking on foot along the highway, the probox was overloaded and over speeding.
Residents expressed their anger over the speed at which the probox cars are being driven along the road and accused the traffic police officers of sleeping on their job.
“These cars travel in very high speeds along this road and carry more than ten passengers. Police do nothing about it since they just extort money from drivers and allow them to break laws,” said the irate residents.
