Nairobi - Seven people including five school children are feared dead after a lorry crushed into them in Webuye in Bungoma County.
The accident occured when the driver of the lorry carrying stones, collided with a tractor that was carrying sugar cane, smashed into a boda boda then lost control and rammed into the group of children heading home for lunch.
It is understood that the driver of the lorry tried his best to avoid hitting the children but the momentum of the lorry was too much for him to handle.
According to the Kenya Red Cross, the accident occured at the Shimoi centre near Webuye and that the children hailed from a nearby school.
A witness at the scene said he recounted the lorry speeding before hitting the track and that the school children were crushed while trying to escape from the on-rushing lorry.
" It was bad. The lorry lost control and because it was carrying heavy stones, the driver could not control it as he was swept away by the momentum, Isaac Baraza a cane cutter in the area said.
