Nakuru - Members of Nakuru County Assembly have once again urged the Chairperson of Salary and Remuneration Commission, Sarah Serem to stop undermining MCAs in the country.
The MCAs said that they were elected by the citizens just like other leaders, and that they deserve to be accorded respect.
Led by Nakuru Leader of Majority Samuel Waithuki, the MCAs said that Serem is only busy fighting devolution that is in the constitution of Kenya.
“Serem should respect MCA because we were given the mandate to serve the public by Kenyans and it is very wrong to see the chairperson of SRC trying to undermine us,” he said on Thursday morning during a press briefing in his offices at Nakuru County Assembly.
He said that Serem is only concentrating on the trips the MCAs are making instead of focusing on the many motions that MCAs have passed ever since they were elected.
Waithuki said that it is a shame that Serem has made MCAs to be seen as rats and maggots in various newspapers in the country.
“This is unacceptable from Serem and we cannot allow such disrespect to continue because we have families as well,” he said.
The Leader of Majority said that Serem collects a total of KES 1 million per month including all her allowances and yet she keeps reducing the salaries of MCAs.
The MCAs said that it was high time that the government reviewed the salary of Serem since she is doing nothing to help the county governments.
