A senior National Intelligence Service (NIS) officer based in Laikipia County is recuperating at a local hospital following a road accident at Nyumba ya Round area along Nanyuki – Nyeri road.
George Osaso sustained serious injuries on the limbs during the 3AM incident and is being admitted at Cottage hospital in Nanyuki town.
Confirming the incident, outgoing Laikipia East police boss Joshua Lutukai said that the matter was reported to Naromoru Police station in Nyeri County.
Lutukai said that the official vehicle which the officer was travelling in, a Toyota Hilux double cabin, was extensively damaged.
“The vehicle was towed to Nanyuki Police station and we have launched investigations over the matter,” said Lutukai.
It has however not been established where the NIS senior officer was going during the accident.
A Police officer who sought anonymity said that the senior officer reported that he had been carjacked in Nanyuki town but gave very few details about the incident.
The officer said that Osaso claimed that he had been carjacked by some people though the claim was not put on record.
The source further said that the officer did not disclose whether he was robbed off anything in the melee.
Osaso was alone when well wishers and passersby salvaged him from the damaged vehicle.
The officer is said to have dropped home some of his colleagues with whom he was having drinks, some hours earlier at a popular joint in Nanyuki town.
