Schoolgirl delivers, dumps baby in pit latrine

Bungoma - Police in Kimilili, Bungoma County, are holding an 18-year-old girl who allegedly gave birth on Tuesday evening and threw the child into their neighbour's pit latrine at Chesamis Village.
Area Chief, Sylvanus Juma who spoke to journalists, said a neighbour was shocked when he went to relieve himself in the morning only to hear a baby crying in pain in the pit below.

“He immediately called other people and together they rescued the one-day-old baby from the latrine which was over 12 metres deep. They reported the matter to my office and we immediately arrested the girl after we were informed that she gave birth the previous day and the child was nowhere to be seen,” said the chief.
According to the administrator, the child was taken to Kimilili sub-County Hospital for medical attention, as police officers investigate why the girl abandoned the little child.
