Nyeri - Two people among them a Form Two student are hospitalized at St. Mary Immaculate Hospital, Mweiga Nyeri County, after consuming a lethal brew on Sunday night.
The schoolboy was admitted together with a 30-year-old man, Martin Muthigani a farmer, after they took the toxic alcohol identified as Movers Gin.
Speaking at his hospital bed, Muthigani said he bought the brew at a cost of KES 140.
The 17-year-old boy student narrated that he took the drink from a friend on Sunday evening and thereafter begun losing sight before he fell unconscious.
They said it was a shock to find themselves in the hospital bed today since they were not aware of the development.
A senior nurse at the hospital said the two are now at stable condition and would be discharged in a few days.
However, according area authorities, the owner of the bar has been arrested and is locked at Mweiga police post awaiting court trial.
Area deputy county commissioner Ngalia Ndaya said the bar was being operated without a licence and revealed that one of the charges facing the suspect is that of selling alcohol to a minor. For the latest on national news, politics, sport, entertainment and more follow us on Twitter and like our Facebook page!
