Tetu, Nyeri - A night guard at Ngooru Secondary School in Tetu sub-County, Nyeri, was slashed to death by armed robbers who stormed the school at Friday dawn.
About 15 thugs armed with crude weapons broke into the school’s computer lab and the principal’s office at 1am and slashed 53-year-old Harrison Kimaru to death. Kimaru's colleague, James Nguyo, was also injured in the incident and is admitted at Nyeri Provincial General Hospital in critical condition.
The burglars stole one computer CPU, one DVD, two speakers and one amplifier all worth KES 100,000 before having refreshment of sodas which were stored in one of the rooms.
Nyeri AP Commander, Jacob Sohera who was the first to arrive at the scene, said the robbers spent about two hours in the school breaking into the two rooms.
Sohera said investigations into the matter have started.
Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Nyeri branch chairman, Patrick Karinga Munuhe, urged the police to ensure those involved are brought to book.
The school, which is a mixed boarding and day secondary school, has a population of over 300 students.
