Nairobi - Pupils and teachers of Kipeto Primary School in Kajiado County received a donation of furniture from Airtel Kenya, as part of the company’s commitment to support the school.
Apart from the donation Airtel also committed to renovate old-wing classrooms, an addition to the six classrooms it built for the school three years ago.
“Airtel is also working towards a water sustainability project through the rehabilitation of a borehole that will provide clean water to the school and the neighbouring community. The support focuses on uplifting the standard of education system at the institution,” the company said in a statement.
Airtel Kenya CEO Adil El Youssefi said his company is fully committed to addressing the development needs of the communities in Kenya.
“It is with this in mind that we continue to offer support to the pupils and teachers towards improving the quality of learning. Airtel will continue its support to the institution in various other fields in future," he said.
The school’s Headmaster Joseph Matura thanked Airtel for the timely gesture urging the pupils and the teachers to take good care of the furniture.
“On behalf of the school, I would like to thank Airtel for all they have been doing for this school. The support will inspire the teachers and pupils to work harder in order to achieve more. Airtel’s support for the last 3 years has made parents believe in the future quality of education at the school, with an increased rate of enrollment of children at the school. The school currently has 400 pupils and we believe the number will continue to grow with the improvement of facilities in the coming years,” Matura noted.
In 2012, Airtel Kenya signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Ministry of Education that enabled Airtel to support the construction and rehabilitation of infrastructure at the school.
Through the MOU, Airtel has supported the school through the construction of washroom facilities, construction and renovation of four classrooms and a borehole that has been of help to the school and the community in general.
