Nairobi - The Principal of Kibutio Mixed Secondary School in Mukurwe-ini Sub-County has been killed in cold blood by armed gangsters at his home in Nyeri town.
Joseph Gikonyo was accosted when arriving home in Mumbi Estate while driving, when three gangsters approached him and killed him on the spot.
Gikonyo entered into his compound and three men forced their way in and shot him three times in the stomach, according to his house help.
Gikonyo’s wife who is also a teacher is said to be away attending music festivals in Makueni County.
The three gangsters were said to have ambushed him near the gate and were also trailing him from a pub in Nyeri town.
However, a neighbour who overheard the commotion said that he heard one robber asking the other, ‘why have you killed him?’
Nyeri Central Deputy Commissioner, John Marete said the gangsters used a pistol. They only stole a mobile phone from the deceased during the incident.
Police said the gangsters shot the principal at close range and left him lying on a pool of blood. The house help was also injured in the melee.
The said thugs later escaped on foot leaving behind Gikonyo’s car but fired severally in the air to scare neighbours.
