Bungoma - The director of a private school in Bungoma County whose recently released Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) results were cancelled due to examination irregularities has committed suicide.
It is suspected that man may have been driven to take his own life, due to fear of the negative reaction of the affected pupils' parents.
The 44 year old owner of Kimilili Precious Saints Academy in Kimilili town, died at a Kitale Hospital on Thursday evening while receiving medical attention , after he was rushed to the facility on being found writhing in pain at his farm in Lukhohwe Village, Tongaren Constituency on Thursday afternoon.
A bottle of an insecticide, a chemical that is used to kill ticks, which the man is believed to have swallowed was found by his side.
All the 17 registered class eight candidates at the school of the deceased man , were cancelled after the examination body found out that the pupils committed examination irregularities in both English and Kiswahili papers.
Eliud Okello , the Bungoma North OCPD, who spoke to journalists confirmed the incident, and said his officers have launched investigations .
“The late did not leave a suicide note, but we are not ruling out that the 44 year old man might have taken his own life for fear of negative reactions from the parents of the candidates. But we shall still conduct our independent investigations to get to the bottom of the matter,” said the police boss, when asked if the man took his own life because of the cancelled results of the pupils.
