School closed as 11 students are possessed by demons

07 March 2014, 14:41 Ken Wekesa

Mombasa - Learning has been disrupted at Jomvu Primary School in Mombasa County after 11 pupils were said to have been possessed by demons.

The school headmaster Muriche Ngedzo confirmed the incident which took place Friday morning.

"A few minutes after the Friday morning parade a standard eight pupil started talking in a strange language before collapsing” said Ngedzo

The school head said there was confusion at the school as 10 other pupils also began to behave in a strange manner.

Jomvu residents claimed that such incidents are caused by demons and are common in the area and required a spiritual cleansing to send the evil spirits away.

The clergy lead by Elias Karisa held a prayer session at the school before allowing all the students to go home.

“We have prayed for our school and we believe that the evil powers will not possess our children again, we have consulted with the school board and allowed the students to go home until Monday to clear the state of confusion,” said Karisa.

However Ngedzo said they will not treat the incident lightly as they have sought intervention from the religious leaders.
