Kwale - Waa secondary school celebrations for winning the coastal football secondary school tournament turned tragic Saturday after one student died and two others were injured in a road accident.
The incident occurred some minutes after the football team arrived at the school with the good news, sending students to a celebration mood along the busy LungaLunga-Mombasa highway.
Ali Maingu, who witnessed the accident, said he was headed to Likoni when he saw a lorry knock down the three Waa high School students.
"I stopped immediately, carried the victims to my car and rushed them to hospital but unfortunately, Musa Mwamwisho passed away," said Maingu.
The school Principal, Rodgers Mwafungo said the three; Musa Mwamwisho(deceased), Raphaed Chigamba and Yusuf Tsuma (injured) were among students who were celebrating outside the school compound.
“The deceased died on the spot while the two other students were rushed to Coast General Hospital for treatment,” he added.

He said the school football teach had just arrived from Taita Taveta regional ball games where they had emerged the winners.
"Tsuma has been discharged from hospital but Chigamba is still retained for treatment since he sustained deep cuts on his head," Mwafungo added.
He noted that students were over excited when they got information of their victory, storming out of the school compound to celebrate. However, the players were in their hostels resting.
He further noted that the students took advantage of the gate which had been opened for a bus leaving the school compound.
“It is not negligence of the teachers that led to that accident because we could not allow them out ourselves. They forced themselves out," he said.
The family of the deceased is still in shock since Saturday after receiving the news of their son's death.
An uncle to the deceased, Hamisi Mwamwisho said the 18-year-old boy was the only son and had lost his mother a year ago.
“We are still in shock for the loss of our son and it is so unfortunate that he has died one year after his mother's death,” said the uncle.
