Sakaja to lobby for National Disaster Fund Bill

Nairobi - The National Alliance (TNA) party chairman, Johnson Sakaja, has said he will lobby for MPs’ support to pass legislation on the establishment of National Disaster Fund.
Sakaja said the kitty will help with promptly response to adversities like fire without necessarily seeking assistance from well-wishers.
“We need such a fund from which to draw money in response to disasters so as to avert loss of life and damage of property,” said Sakaja.
He made the remarks at Kihome secondary school Thursday in Othaya following a fire incident that gutted down a dormitory on Monday night.
Area MP, Mary Wambui, opined that every sub-County should be equipped with fire fighting machines for swift and immediate response.
Wambui was accompanied by Nyambura Gathogo (Ruiru MP), Mary Mbugua (Nakuru MP) and Jane Apolos (Laikipia MP).
The lawmakers donated mattresses and blankets to the affected students.
The fire, whose cause is yet to be established, is said to have gutted the dormitory that was housing 71 students with nothing being salvaged during the incident.
