Nairobi - Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto stole as much as KES 700 million from public coffers for personal gain, the EACC report on corruption states.
The EACC report, which News24 has in its posession accuses the Bomet Governor of purchasing property worth close to KES 750 million in the last few months.
It accuses him of buying heavy machinery such as 40 earth movers, tippers and graders worth approximately KES 400 million.
He also bought a helicopter worth KES 300 million and a palatial home in Ngong town worth KES 33 million all in a very short period of time according to the EACC.
It is alleged that he owns a rapid number of petrol stations in the country.
Ruto has already said that he will not quit office despite being named in the report, because he is an elected official.
" There is a difference between an elected official and an appointed one. We Governors are elected officials. We do not just resign," he said of the pressure from president Uhuru Kenyatta to step aside from office until investigations by the EACC are complete.
Ruto is among 17 Governors that have been named in the report and whether he will step aside remains to be seen.
