Bomet - The Bomet governor, Issac Rutto has opined that some politicians should be given political seats despite losing in elections.
Rutto wished that the former justice minister and presidential aspirant, Martha Karua was currently in the Senate or in the opposition.
Speaking in Mathira constituency, Rutto who is also the Governors’ council chairman, stressed that Karua was active in politics and thus could have been given a position.
He further asked the national government to increase funds allocated to the counties in order to ensure there is improved quality of life.
“Kenyans agreed to have devolution and created the two levels of government and therefore we have to protect it,” said Rutto.
He dispelled reports that there was a rift between the national and county governments but explained that the two levels of government were working together.
Kakamega governor, Wycliffe Oparanya said it is only through the devolved system of governance that the country can realise more developments.
The two leaders made the remarks during funeral service of Governor Nderitu Gachagua’s father, Nahashon Gachagua Reriani who died at an advanced age of 105 years old.
More than ten governors had attended the event.
