Ruto should also resign, Governors demand

Nairobi - Deputy President William Ruto must also resign from office if Governors are to do so, the County chiefs have stated.
The Council of Governors Friday said that they would not step aside from office as ordered by president Uhuru Kenyatta because his own deputy it embroiled in a court case at the moment.
They claimed that Ruto himself should clear his name with the Hague based International Criminal Court ICC before asking others to leave office for various reasons.
Chairman of the Council Isaac Ruto said that as far as they are concerned, the statement from Uhuru was a political one and would not be taken seriously unless he also cracks the whip on his deputy.
" The president has no basis to order elected leaders leave office," he said Friday.
He also insisted that in the case such a move would be considered, then Ruto too must step aside with immediate effect.
" Ruto must also leave office if this directive is to at all be taken seriously," he added.
Uhuru had said that he wants the country to rid itself of the bad reputation it has gained of having corrupt leaders in office, saying that it was not healthy especially when it comes to selling the country as an investment destination.
