Ruto launches new body to fight corruption in government

Nairobi - A new body has been formed to ensure transparency in government spending.
The new body dubbed Accountability Kenya AK will be tasked with keeping government spending above board as well as churning out ways of checking corruption.
The body will comprise several institutions of note, whose primary objectives is to fight corruption and wastefulness in government.
Deputy President William Ruto unveiled the new body Thursday in Nairobi which he hopes will slow down the massive rate of corruption in government.
" It is my pleasure to launch an initiative like this one which boasts the best minds both in the public and private sector to deal with corruption, he said.
He urged members who will make up the body to ensure strict adherence to accountability in government and ensure that those in the wrong are brought to book.
" We do hope that those found on the wrong side of the law will be exposed and action taken, he added.
The body will comprise of parliamentary committee's such as the Public Accounts Committee PAC, the Public Investments Committee PIC, which will both have members on the board.
Others who will sit on the board are Anti Corruption Commision EACC, the Auditor General's office, the Public Procurement Board PCB, the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions DPP, the controller of budget as well as the Institute of Certified Accountants who will all have representation.
PAC boss Ababu Namwamba will head the body until a permanent person is put in office.
