Nairobi - 5 roundabouts will be removed from the Nairobi Central Business District CBD to ease traffic flow in the city.
The roundabouts between Uhuru Highway and University Way, Kenyatta Avenue and Haile Selassie Avenue, and between Bunyala and Lusaka roads will be replaced with traffic light intersections.
Governor Evans Kidero said that the move would ease traffic by as much as 40% once the changes are completed.
" They will help reduce traffic in the interim which is a huge problem in the city as we all know," he said.
Kidero was speaking during the launch of new anti-traffic traffic management and control measures Monday.
He added that the Westlands roundabouts would be changed to avoid right turns and police posted accordingly to help ease traffic flow.
" The County loses as much as KES 85 billion to traffic. That has to change," he added.
He also added that mobile courts will be introduced to help deal with traffic offenders.
