Traders
on roads in Kakamega town will be relocated in August this year.
Kakamega
town Market Master, Mr. Wanyonyi Werunga, says that, the new Kakamega Municipal
Market that is under construction will be complete in two months time and all
the traders will be moved. With the new market estimated to have a capacity of
1000 stalls, Mr. Werunga says that, it will not be enough to house all the
traders, therefore the old market will be renovated to create enough space for
the traders.

“It
is too challenging to provide security to traders and their goods when they are
scattered this way,” Mr. Werunga says, assuring them that, there will be enough
security in the new market, and the issue of storage of goods has already been
addressed since the new stalls can be locked. “Plans are underway to
build a closed fish market and a public toilet after the completion of this
project,” he added.
