Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has vowed to scrutinize bidders for tenders to contractors who will maintain all public roads in Cities and Municipalities in Kenya.
Speaking during the occasion in Kakamega at Kura offices, Senior Procurement Officer, Western Region, Bernard Ndemo said, “It will take 30 days to identify the contractors we will work with for the period ending 30th June 2014.”
He said that, it is better to give ‘briefcase contractors’ the job because they do the job themselves rather than giving big companies that turn out to give the job to others who do shoddy work.
Ndemo said that, with technological advancement, one can operate a business in his bedroom, therefore, provided the contractors meet the requirements then they will get the tenders.
He dismissed corruption allegations during the selection process and assured the contractors that it will be free and fair.
