Nairobi - Rioters broke into and looted the controversial Chinese restaurant that has been accused of locking out black people in Nairobi.
According to police, a group of around 50, carrying twigs and placards arrived at the hotel and proceeded to break into it, injuring the watchman on duty.
They went on to steal foodstuff, utensils, beers and other things of unknown value.
They then later on removed pieces of furniture and burnt it at the gate of the restaurant before police arrived and dispersed the crowd.
Kilimani OCPD Peter Katam confirmed the incident.
" The group of up-to 50 arrived at the establishment on what was a peaceful demonstration but then it got out of hand and there were cases of looting reported," he told News24.
No arrests were made by police.
The restaurant has been in the news for its policy of locking out blacks past 5 PM.
It has for now been closed until investigations into why it was operating without a valid license is completed.
Its manager Zhao Yin is currently remanded at the Langata Womens prison awaiting the hearing of the matter Monday.
