Retirees urged to start projects
24 June 2013, 11:41
The Kenya Association of Retired Officers (KARO) national coordinator Nduhiu Njama over the weekend called upon all retirees countrywide to start income generating projects so as to sustain their lives in their old age.
Nduhiu said such projects would still act as a big challenge to the youth who would like to emulate them by venturing in similar income generating projects.
Speaking in Nyeri County in the company of other KARO officials, Nduhiu said though they served the country diligently in diverse ways, their efforts are not recognized.
He pointed out that majority of them earn KES 5 000 per month as retirement benefit which he said it is too little to sustain their needs.
The association now wants their benefits reviewed and adjusted upwards to match the rising inflation in the country.
The coordinator further disclosed that they have approached the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) to hand their grievances on pensions saying negotiations are in progress.
