Residents warned against social media abuse

Nakuru - Nakuru County Commissioner, Mohammed Birik has warned social media users against posting alarming messages on the platforms, saying they risk arrest and prosecution.
Speaking Thursday morning in Nakuru Town, Birik raised concerns over what he termed as misuse of social media saying the County security personnel are investigating various social media accounts whose users have been posting terror alerts.
The commissioner said the government will not tolerate rogue users of social media platforms.

“We are going to act tough on social media users who think they can use the platforms to cause disunity and preach hate. Some people have made it a habit of posting alleged terror alerts on social media causing unwarranted fear among the residents and we will not tolerate that,” said Birik.
Birik said investigations have been launched to determine the truth and source of the messages.
The commissioner assured Nakuru residents of their safety, saying there is nothing to worry about as security is tight.
