A major railway line in Nyahururu town has been vandalised and most
of the rails covered with grass after being dormant for many years.
line, which was constructed during the colonial days and used by white
settlers from Laikipia and Nyandarua Districts to transport their wheat,
milk and beef cattle to Nairobi and other parts of the country,
branches from Gilgil from the Nairobi Nakuru line, ending in Nyahururu
town behind the New KCC factory.
Residents are urging county
governments to put the railway line top of the agenda for governors if
they want to improve the transport system in Nyandarua adding that large
scale pyrethrum farming can be revived in the county if the railway
line can be revived to transport the produce to the factories.
