Residents vow to kill marauding monkeys

Residents of Pipeline Estate in Nakuru town on Wednesday morning threatened to kill monkeys from Delamere farm for destroying their maize plantations in the area.
The angry residents said that the monkeys have been terrorising them for many years yet the owner of the farm has so far failed to set up a parameter wall to prevent the animals from intruding into residential areas.
Led by area ward representative, Humphrey Mwaniki, the residents said that they will be moving to court seeking compensation from the Dalamere family for destruction caused by the wild animals.
“For a long time, these animals have been terrorising us and that’s why we will be moving to court to compel the land owner to compensate us for the destruction caused by these wild animals,” he said.
He added that the area residents have written severally to the land owner over the matter but he has not responded yet.
Mwaniki also blamed the Kenya Wild Service (KWS) for not being able to control the wild animals despite their promise to improve surveillance in the area.
The residents said that the park rangers have been busy chasing the poachers that they forgot to protect the public from the same wild animals.
“The rangers have always been busy chasing the poachers while forgetting to protect the very same citizens and that’s why we want more security in this area,” he said.
