Residents of Kianjogu village in Imenti South district of the Meru County are appealing to the government to allocate police officers to the newly constructed police post at Mikumbune in order to boost security in the area.
Speaking to reporters in mikumbune on condition of anonymity, the residents complained over the high influx of illicit brews in the area which they claimed is causing harm to the lives of young men and leading to domestic violence and family break ups.
They said the issue has become so serious that on Tuesday, the area chief was attacked by a young man who was armed with a panga after they differed over some issues.
It took the intervention of wananchi to rescue the chief of Mikumbune location, Joel Muriuki Kirima, from his assailant.
The Chief reported the matter to the police and recorded a statement after which the man was arrested.
The villagers have expressed worry over increasing outlets for illicit brews and second generation brews popularly known as TU BONDI which young people have resulted to consuming instead of engaging in productive work.
