Kikwechi - Residents of Kikwechi Village in Bungoma County, the same town that an unknown machete-wielding gang of people descended on,can now sigh with relief after a police post was launched in the area.
Over 60 people were slashed by the gang that attacked the village on April 26, leaving several of them nursing severe wounds and maimed for life some of them.
On Tuesday, a police post was launched in the area by Bungoma County Commissioner Maalim Mohamed. The police post will be temporarily situated at Kikwechi Polytechnic, and will be used to boost security levels in the area, especially during the forthcoming by-election period.
Speaking during the launch, Mohammed noted the area has in the past recorded security lapses because the village it is situated in the border of three sub-counties, therefore bringing about confusion in commands.
He however quickly noted that the challenge will now be a thing of the past, after the setting up of the police post.
“Apart from the police post, I have issued strict instructions to the security agents to work without being hindered by administrative borders, especially when heeding to distress calls from members of the public. This will go a long way in boosting security in the county, and avoiding any hiccups, which criminals have taken advantage off, to terrorize members of the public” said the county commissioner.
