Release Wadi like Kuria, CORD insist

Nairobi - The opposition CORD coalition has insisted that jailed blogger Allan wadi be pardoned just like Gatundu MP Moses Kuria who has been pardoned for hate speech.
Kuria was pardoned by the National Cohesion and Integration Commission NCIC after agreeing to apologize over hate speech comments targeting some tribes in the country last year.
He agreed to put out a public apology and a written apology in national newspapers to secure his release.
Wadi though, was jailed two years for undermining the authority of president Uhuru Kenyatta by insulting him in a series of tweets late last year.
CORD feel that the two cases present a case of selective justice and say that Wadi must also be allowed to apologize, same as the pardoned Kuria.
" We find it ridiculous that Wadi was jailed two years and Kuria pardoned in two obvious cases of hate speech. Why not serve the same fate?," Siaya Senator James Orengo said of the case.
He adds that there will be a follow up by CORD over the case and that they will seek to censure the NCIC for the sentence facing Wadi to be reduced to a similar proportion to Kuria's.
" That is the case. We will seek an annulment of the sentence to reflect fairness," he added.
The NCIC has said that it agreed to dialogue with Kuria after the Court charging him for hate speech provided room for pardon as compared to a jail sentence.
Wadi has already started serving his sentence.
