Reduce data costs, Ruto urges mobile operators

Nairobi - Deputy President William Ruto has called on mobile operators to reduce data costs.
He said the government is concerned about the high cost of accessing the Internet on mobile phones.

" Operators should work with government to bring down the cost of data to enable more Kenyans interact," he said on Friday.
Mr Ruto was speaking at the National Forum on Sustainable Data for Development held at the Laico Regency hotel in Nairobi.
Ruto insisted that unless the providers reduced the costs, there would be a problem as it would be basically denying Kenyans access to information.
He insisted that if not heeded, then the Communications Authority CAK should be able to try ensure they do so.
" It is a Constitutional obligation for Kenyans to have access to information and that should be considered," he added.
