Orphans are very important human beings in the society and nobody should take advantage of their presence and use them in a wrong way.

It has become a trend in many places, and more so in Mombasa where many people have seen it as a gold mine to use street children and orphans to get wealth and siphon cash from well wishers and donors with an intention of helping the orphans and or street children which is not the case.

These people use their well calculated tactics to convince well wishers from abroad that what they are doing here is real and exact to what is in the paper in their systems.

It has become a common phenomenon where someone would rent a house for Ksh.4,500,collect some destitute put them in the house, provide them with some food  and call it a children’s home.

They then take pictures and send to the donors who then send cash and materials to support these needy children, which is not used to help them but to buy vehicles and plots and erect buildings for their self benefit.

Presently, there are some homes where an individual takes his/her own house get some few children from the neighborhood and lie to support groups that he/she is doing some projects that help the children. The house is then painted, renovated only for his/her own benefit.

This vice has now taken root in Mombasa to an extent that when the donors come they pay a lot of money just to stay in the individual's house. They pay a rate of about Ksh.3, 500 per day which goes directly to these individuals. It could be a good venture, but it is unacceptable since what is on paper is not what is done for the needy children.

Some will say that a child was taken to a hospital with a bill of Ksh.12, 000 after 3 days while the child was taken to a clinic, where less than Kshs.500 was used.

It is time the society was able to note these people who want to eat using a wrong method. If not they should not use the children as this is an abuse of human dignity.

Our government should come up with stiffer measures to ensure our children are not used as tools of reap in the diaspora with a wrong intension and benefit.
