Rapper Kimya joins sex education movement

25 February 2014, 17:09 Eugene Odanga

Nairobi - Dana De Grazia, an American student studying at USIU here in Nairobi has started a sex education campaign dubbed Afreaka in partnership with Kimya, one of the greatest Hip Hop artists and MC’s in the country.

“Afreaka is an organization dedicated to spreading factual information and unbiased knowledge to young adults about sexual education. Afreaka is done for the younger generation, by the younger generation and is committed to having young adults empowered by knowledge in the choices they make” says the founder.

She added, “What sets Afreaka apart from others in this field, is the idea of “revolution through urban life”. We are using mediums that young people relate to such as urban art, current recording artists and their music, clothing they want to wear and more.  All designed to catch the attention of young people and keeping it through generating real, meaningful and insightful conversations.

" As a contributor you will be involving yourself in a revolutionary idea of how to communicate with the youth and make a difference in their lives today. With your help we can reduce the number of unwanted pregnancies, reduce the number of abortions, which carry both medical and legal risks, and empower young people to make safe choices about avoiding STIs and AIDS.

She goes on to say “Our mission is to provide accurate and unbiased information about sexual health, parenthood management and proper and realistic contraception use among the young generations.  In order to reach these young people in a way they can relate to, Afreaka uses current and relevant urban art and music, leaving the listener feeling empowered by their newfound knowledge and capable of making informed choices that lead to healthier lives for them and ultimately for their friends and future children.”

To join the movement free of charge, SMS “AFRICA” to 22231. Make a small donation of 850ksh or more today to be one of the first to receive an Afreaka T-shirt, Tank top or hat (Free delivery till 15th March 2014).
