Rape victim's ordeal

26 July 2012, 12:14Steve Wambugu

A middle aged student from Egerton University Nakuru town campus is fearing for her life after she exposed a rape ordeal in the hands of her colleague student .

The second year student from the faculty of Health Sciences currently on attachment at the Molo District Hospital was reportedly raped by her final year colleague in what appears to be a well planned mission with her close female friend.

The incident happened on Saturday 14th July at her friend's rental house in Nakuru's  posh Milimani estate.

Narrating her ordeal to reporters in Nakuru on Thursday, the student said that she had accompanied three of her colleagues to Milimani in preparation for a prayer meeting organized for final year students currently taking their examinations, when the three left later claiming to be going for studies leaving her in the room alone.

She said that one of the male colleagues came back a few minutes later and grabbed her neck then raped her until she became unconscious.

She regained her consciousness after being taken to a private hospital in town where she was treated and discharged.

The student said that since then, she has been experiencing lower abdominal pains and at one time she fainted working at the Molo hospital forcing her to be bed ridden for four days.

With her attachment slated to come to an end on Friday this week, the student said that she has remained traumatized, never to concentrate in her studies again and now fears that her entire study projects might not be successful.

She says that since the incident happened, she has been receiving threat messages from unknown people while the student accused of raping her has been sending her text messages showing how remorseful he has been since then.

In unclear circumstances, the students mobile phone has only been receiving text messages but all incoming calls appear to be blocked .

Some of the text messages she showed to reporters show the sender apologizing for what happened, pleading that police and parents should not be involved in the matter and expressing fear that if locked in prison, he will not sit for examinations thus costing his entire life. he blames his feelings for what transpired.

The student said that the alleged rapist was only a friend and that they had never been in love.

She said that this was the second time she had been raped.

While in form two she was gang raped by people unknown to her while schooling in Meru county.

She has called on the police to take up the matter seriously and ensure justice is done.

The matter has since been reported at the Nakuru central police station though no arrests have been made so far.
