Rape suspect escapes from court

A rape suspect who was being held at Shimo la Tewa prison escaped from the Tononoka children’s law courts in Mombasa on Monday.
The suspect who was facing charges of raping a minor is said to have disappeared under questionable circumstances immediately after the hearing of his case.
According to an eye witness of the incident, the prison wardens lost their hold on the prisoner who then slipped away and ran across the Buxton Road.
Efforts by the police to have him back into custody turned futile as the suspect was running at a very high speed.
The case brought to three the number of prisoners who have escaped in confusing circumstances.
In previous cases, two prisoners who were being transferred from Kamiti maximum prison escaped from Shimo la Tewa prison using a ladder three weeks ago.
Currently, a blaming finger is being pointed at the prison wardens over the matter.
