Raila's sister's parastatal appointment not political

Nairobi - The fact that President Uhuru Kenyatta named the sister to CORD leader Raila Odinga in a parastatal appointment is not a big deal to the family.
Dr Wenwa Akinyi Odinga was named as a board member to the Kenya Medical Research Institute KEMRI by president Kenyatta Monday in a move that saw 302 persons named to several parastatal posts.
The move as usual, has raised some eyebrows, seeing as Uhuru and Raila are political rivals.
The Odinga family though, does not have any issue at all with it.
" She is a very capable person as her CV states and that should be just about it," Oburu Odinga told News24 of the appointment.
" The appointment is fine by us and should not be taken to mean a political stance has been taken. It is purely work related and we are happy for her that she has landed a very good position," he added.
Whether it is political or not, it is likely to win the president plaudits for at-least not considering the best minds in the country for senior jobs.
" Whichever way you look at it, it shows the president is willing to consider everyone. That is the message he will be sending with the appointment," political scientist Michael Njenga says.
" The president will look all inclusive and welcoming, especially seeing that she is an Odinga and that is what matters to the State House brains."
" It is a good PR move," he adds.
Dr Odinga is famed as the first Kenyan woman to receive a doctorate degree in Chemistry.
