Raila under pressure to fill vacant Homa Bay seat after Kajwang death
04 December 2014, 08:04
Nairobi - CORD leader Raila Odinga is under pressure from Senators and MPs within his ODM party to vie for election to the Senate and replace former Homa Bay Senator Otieno Kajwang.
The revelation came Wednesday amidst haggling by Senators and MPs, who feel that Raila's presence in the Senate would galvanize the opposition coalition.
The Senators, over 10 in number, want Raila to replace Kajwang, so are a number of leaders in Homa Bay.
It is understood that they have already petitioned the former Prime Minister, who is yet to make any decision.
" He has been spoken to about it. There has been no formal meeting to discuss it. But he knows what the leaders from Homa Bay want, a source close to the PM told News24.
If he agrees to the February 2, 2015 by election, the move would be a sure political game changer, as Raila has been forced to sit and watch on the sidelines thanks to the provisions of the new constitution, which meant presidential election losers could not have any other elective positions.
