Raila to tour Rift Valley next week

29 October 2015, 16:30 William Korir

Nairobi - CORD leader Raila Odinga has confirmed he will tour the Rift Valley next week in a bid to sell the coalition's prospects to the people of the region as well as speak about the sticky ICC matter.

The coalition had been set to tour last weekend after Raila's return from Korea but the trip was postponed due to logistical and planning issues.

Odinga though, has now confirmed his trip to the region.

" The CORD battalion led by leader Raila Odinga will tour the Rift Valley and comment on a number of issues," the Coalition said in a statement Thursday.

The coalition had previously announced that it will host several rallies in Deputy President William Ruto's background as it seeks to explain to the public about the real issues as regards the current trial facing Ruto and journalist Joshua Sang.

This has come as a result of the accusations by Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria who has accused a number of opposition chiefs for framing Ruto.

The coalition will travel to Kericho, Kapsabet and Nandi amongst other areas but will avoid Eldoret.

It is understood that it will be the case as the hostility levels against the party are said to be currently very high.

" Eldoret has been hostile and because it is an issue to do with the ICC case, which is very touchy in those parts, the rally will not go there," a source close to the organisation of the rallies told News24.

CORD and its leader Raila Odinga has been on a slippery slope as regards support in the Rift, with Raila regarded by many Kalenjins as an enemy following Ruto's admission to the ICC in 2012.
