Raila talk a waste of time, says ODM MP

18 May 2015, 17:12 William Korir

Nairobi - CORD leader Raila Odinga will contest the 2017 General Election and any talk to the contrary is a waste of time, an ODM MP has said.

There has been talk over the suitability in terms of age of the former Prime Minister contesting the presidency with detractors claiming that he is overage and together with former Deputy President Kalonzo Musyoka should be retired.

Suba MP and ODM chairman John Mbadi however says that talk that Raila should be retired is a waste of time since Raila will be contesting the elections come 2017.

He says that the notion that the coalition is better off with a different person atop its leadership structure is nonsense and a waste of time.

" That talk is a waste of time. Raila has already said he will stand for the presidency come 2017. That story is complete and utter waste of time," he said Monday.

" Raila is fit. Kenyans love him and we are very confident he will win the 2017 elections," he added.

On the issue of Raila and Kalonzo not earning their pension due to their involvement in politics, Mbadi said that the declaration was petty and plain politics.

" It is a political stance to declare so. But as the coalition co principal (Kalonzo) has said, we will not be handicapped by a retirement package," he added.

Kalonzo stated over the weekend that calls by the Jubilee coalition for him and Raila to quit office in order to access their retirement package were uncalled for and that he would not bow down to a small package and let the Jubilee coalition get their own way.
