Raila postpones Baringo tour

15 April 2015, 12:10 William Korir

Nairobi - CORD leader Raila Odinga has postponed a planned tour to Baringo.

The CORD leader Odinga was to tour Baringo to assess the damage effected by attacks on locals by bandits.

Raila was to tour Baringo Thursday to find out the cause as well as seek a solution to the attacks that have seen over 100 persons killed.

The CORD leader would have held two public meetings during his trip.

The first was to be at Kabel Centre in Muchongoi and at Loitip primary school.

However, according to a statement from ODM communications director Philip Etale, the trip has been postponed due to unavoidable circumstances.

" We would like to announce that due to unforeseen circumstances, the planned tour of Baringo County by the Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga scheduled for tomorrow (Thursday 16th April 2015) has been postponed to a later date. We regret any inconvenience caused, the statement said Wednesday.

During the trip, Raila was to condole with families and speak with them in a bid to find the root cause of the attacks, Etale said in his earlier statement Tuesday.

" The poor state of security in the area continues to cause tension among the locals leading to the closure of schools and markets for fear of banditry attacks, slowing down the local economy," he said.

Etale blamed the government for taking little or no measures to arrest the situation in the region.

" This is despite the assurance by the government that insecurity has been curbed and life back to normalcy," he added.

Kapedo in Baringo has been the worst hit in recent times, with 4 people being killed late last week in the latest killing purge in the region.

Since last year, over 200 people have died in the region, including plenty of police officers who have been killed in the line of duty.
