Raila owes Mumias Sugar money, Ruto says

17 August 2015, 15:15 William Korir

Nairobi - CORD leader Raila Odinga owes Mumias Sugar money and should pay up, Deputy President William Ruto has said.

Ruto told Kakamega Senator Bonny Khalwale to first ask his fellow CORD leaders to pay Mumias before clamouring for changes to the fortunes of the country's biggest sugar miller.

" The same people complaining about Mumias owe the company millions and should pay up first," he said in Mumias Sunday.

" I saw on the TV people talking and they owe. Tell Senator Khalwale to first ask them to pay before he goes elsewhere," he added.

Khalwale in a rejoinder Monday, stated that the jibe by Ruto was a non issue.

" The government cannot point fingers over the Mumias matter. It is their own doing, completely," he stated.

The Mumias issue has come up wildly due to the fact that western Kenya leaders have complained over a recent deal signed with Uganda to allow sugar imports into the country.

CORD leader Raila Odinga has been vocal over the matter, saying that the deal is a raw one.

However, President Uhuru Kenyatta has already stated that the deal will stand and nothing will change as it benefits Kenya as a whole.
