Raila celebrates suspension of new Security Laws

02 January 2015, 15:56 William Korir

Nairobi - CORD leader Raila Odinga has celebrated the suspension of the Security Laws 2014 by the High Court.

The laws were suspended by Judge George Odunga Friday after week long deliberations over the constitutionality of the laws.

Justice Odunga suspended Section 12, 16, 26, 29, 48, 56, 58 and 64 pending the full hearing of the petition filed by the Opposition Cord.

He referred the matter to Chief Justice Willy Mutunga who is expected to constitute a three-judge bench to hear the petition

Raila, speaking at the precincts of the Court, added that he was happy with the results of the hearing.

" This is a victory for the Kenyan. We have got the acceptance of the courts and I am happy at the news, he said of the ruling.

He added that there was room for the courts to make the Laws disappear completely.

" It is the hope of Kenyans that the law is amended completely, he added.
