Raila, Kalonzo to attend Wetang’ula’s homecoming

16 January 2014, 16:30 Arap Yego

Bungoma - Top CORD leaders, Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka will be in Bungoma County Friday to attend the homecoming party for their fellow co-Principal and area Senator elect, Moses Wetang’ula.

Speaking to journalists at Masinde Muliro Stadium in Kanduyi, where the ceremony will be held on Friday, as they put the final touches, Fred Wekesa, a personal aide to Wetang’ula said they have finalized all the preparations for the grand homecoming ceremony and that hundreds of elected leaders and thousands of residents are expected to attend.

“Apart from Raila and Kalonzo, we expect all the elected CORD leaders including governors, senators and MPs among others to attend. We have also invited New Ford Kenya party leader Eugene Wamalwa, and  Wetang’ula’s rivals in the recently concluded by-elections; Musikari Kombo, David Makali and Bifwoli Wakoli,” said Wekesa, who is also a younger brother of Wetang’ula.

According to Wekesa, Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka, who is perceived to have frosty relationships with the senator elect as he had in the run-up to the hotly contested senatorial by-elections announced that he would back former Local Government Minister Musikari Kombo who is a bitter Wetang’ula rival,  has confirmed attendance.

Wetang’ula, a former senate minority leader emerged the winner in a hotly contested senatorial by-election on December 19, 2013, after a successful election petition filed by Musikari Kombo that led to the invalidation of Wetang’ula’s victory.
