Nyeri - A woman was arraigned in a Nyeri court Tuesday morning for obtaining 75 quail chicks worth KES 26,000 fraudulently.
Margret Wambui allegedly obtained the wild birds from her fellow farmer, Martin Muchiri on January 22, 2014 at Kiganjo location in Nyeri.
She reportedly received the chicks on debt basis after promising to settle the debt on a later date, only for her to fail to honour the pledge prompting Muchiri to file a fraud case against her.
Appearing before chief magistrate Wilbrodah Juma, Wambui denied the charges and was released on bond terms of KES 50,000 with a surety of similar amount or cash bail of KES 30,000.
She requested the court to be provided with copies of any document, including witness statements that the prosecution might use during the case proceedings for her defence.
The case will be heard on February 20 with a mention on February 10, 2014.
