Pupils die as vehicle plunges into river Chania

Thika - Two school pupils died Saturday while scores were left with injuries following a road accident along the Thika-Kenol road near Blue Post hotel.
Confirming the incident, Thika sub-County deputy commissioner, Jeremiah Gicheru said the accident involved a Pubic Service Vehicle (PSV) matatu Nissan and a lorry that was carrying construction materials.
The accident that caused a two-hour traffic snarl up occurred when the lorry lost control and crashed into the Nissan, throwing it into Chania River before crashing into other vehicles.

Gicheru explained that out of the 13 children who were in the PSV, two died on the spot, three were admitted in Thika Level Five hospital while the others were treated in the same hospital and discharged.
He said plans were underway to mark the area as a black spot, saying that several other accidents have happened at the same spot in the last few months.
