Nakuru - The county Assembly is on the spotlight over claims that it bought 75 laptops for its Members of County Assembly (MCAs) at a cost of KES 16 million.
Member of Parliament for Bahati constituency Kimani Ngunjiri has termed the move as extravagant leading to waste of public resources.
He wondered how the purchase of 75 laptops would cost KES 16 million which translate to KES 213, 000 per piece.
“We want to be told in detail who proposed the purchase and who did the procurement. This is public money which would have gone to development issues which directly affect the community,” said Ngunjiri.
He further called on for speedy audit on the same as well as other projects so as to come up with a clear picture which would lead to bringing those responsible to book.
“Auditing will come and those found guilty will be jailed. The auditor general needs to come in and ensure and audit the expenditure,” he said.
An MCA who requested anonymity said 75 Toshiba laptops were purchased at a cost of KES 16 million.
