Meru: Prisoner sodomized

25 October 2012, 14:22Kelvin Mureithi

An inmate at the Meru Prison has been spending sleepless nights  after persistently being sodomized by a fellow prisoner.

Duncan Thuranira who appeared before Meru Senior resident magistrate D.W. Mburu on Wednesday, narrated before the court how he was sodomised by a fellow prisoner at the prison on 17 th August 2012.

He told the court that on the day he was sent to the prison to await hearing of his case, Moses Kithure sodomized him the whole night.

The accused who was charged with theft says he reported the case to the police officers in charge, the following morning and he was taken to the Meru Level Five Hospital for treatment, and later recorded a statement with the police on the matter.

He claimed no action was taken, and he continues to be sodomized by the same man at night.

He claimed the incidents had made him uncomfortable and pleaded with the magistrate to transfer him to the Meru police custody, a plea which was not granted.

The magistrate ordered the officer commanding station Meru, to investigate the matter.

However, the theft case was rescheduled for another day as witnesses had failed to turn up.
