Prison warders pursue a prison escapee in Nyeri

Nyeri - Several gun shots were fired in the air by prison warders Friday morning after one inmate escaped from the King’ong’o G.K Prison near Nyeri town.
The inmate escaped around 9am in the morning through a neigbouring coffee bushes.
The prison warders fired in the air as they searched for the inmate who was serving his last term in prison.
A farmhand who works at the neighbouring farm, Peter Wanjohi, said he abandoned work when he heard the gun shots in the coffee estate.
He had earlier seen the inmate, who was still wearing the prison clothes, running through the farm as the warders pursued him.
A prison officer who did not want to be quoted since he is not authorized to speak to the media said that the inmate was from the medium prison inside the facility.
Officer in charge of the prison, Patrick Aranduh, refused to comment on the issue.
By the time of going to the press, the prison warders were still combing the neighboring bushes and coffee estates in search of him.
