Prison officer arraigned on burglary charges

Nyeri - A Prison Warder has been arraigned in a Nyeri court on burglary and theft charges.
Constable Samuel Kinyua appeared before Nyeri senior resident magistrate Christine Wekesa to answer to charges of breaking into the house of a Prison Warder, Alfred Kyule, jointly with David Wanjohi and others not before court, where they stole a television set worth KES 6 000 on September 5, 2014 at King’ong’o prison.

The two accused persons were also charged with breaking into the house of another Prison Warder John Kanyuge, who also lives within the same correctional facility and stole another television set worth KES 5 200 the same night.
Wanjohi faced an alternative charge of handling stolen property after it was alleged that the stolen TV sets were found in his possession.

However, the two denied all the charges and were released on a KES 100 000 bond pending the hearing of the case.
The case was set to proceed on September 22.
